Elçin Ekinci

Born 1980,Turkey
She lives and works in Birmingham, Istanbul.

Elcin Ekinci studied a BA in Art and Design from Yildiz Teknik University (Istanbul) and an MA in
Sculpture from Marmara University (Istanbul), Accademia di Belle Arti L'Aquila (Italy)

In Elcin Ekinci’s works, ranging from painting, sculpture and installation to performative practices with
various mediums, she focuses on layers of ontology, psychoanalysis, human nature, representation of
biopolitics and gender. She composes visual connections between all these layers and representations
on the way of her research progress. Body plays a major role in her practice. Especially in her recent
works, body is central to her work as an organic and deformed provocative beings. These are
organically shaped figures that are originating from the subconscious flow gradually start to create
themselves a form and body. They are a field of research, traces the progress of deep memories, body
politics and its invisible effects. She produces in various mediums, depends on the progress of her
research.

Elcin Ekinci has exhibited nationally and internationally including Russia, Italy and Turkey. Recent
exhibitions include (Neither in Nor out) Yaz Collective, Pandora’s Black Box (Galata Greek School),
Future and Past (4th Russia Ural Bienalle), Memory/Narration (Sabancı Kasa Gallery), The Nature of Order (Daire Gallery), Mamut Art Project, When Ideas become Crime (Depo Istanbul), Over the City (Gallery Famiglia Margini,Milan), Sculpture Selection (Rotary Internatıonal, Italy), New Suggestions and New Propositions(Borusan Art Gallery), Now(Odeabank).

Her work is held public collections in Italy and Turkey.
