Douglas Mandry

Douglas Mandry

Douglas Mandry is a Swiss artist and photographer born in Geneva in 1989.

His practice is driven by a constant reaction to digital acceleration and nowadays’ proliferation of images. This loss of materiality in the digital era brought him to examine the core of photography – its construction process. Mandry uses photographs shot on trips around the world as raw material for experimentation. Each project is based on another location, each one dragging his focus on a specific field of related experimentation and references. The bet of his work consists in confronting exotic representations with our expectations towards the so-called indexical medium of photography.

His work has been exhibited among others in Plat(t)form 15 at the Fotomuseum Winterthur, Corso Como gallery, Azzédine Alaïa gallery, and he has been nominated to numerous contests such as the Paul Huf Award Amsterdam (2015+2016), Swiss Federal Design Award, Swiss Photo Award. His latest project "Unseen Sights" will be published in the coming issue of Foam Magazine called "Back to the Future".
